We will be including Frank Black's painting entitled "The Credit River" in our March auction.
Also included will be a Beatles album "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band" Mono, 2nd pressing,1967. Rare and in good condition. Small hair line scratch on one side. With cutouts, No custom sleeve.

Anniversary Celebration

Thank you to everyone who attended our 5th Anniversary Celebration. It was a great success and we couldn't have done it without you.

Our special guests included cats, Merlin who has had eye surgery, and Ruby, who required removal of one leg.Their care was possible thanks to Trooper's Fund. They have both been adopted. Merlin Update

Merlin had the first of three eye surgeries on Jan. 19. Originally he was to have just one to create an upper eye lid, however, his Ophthamologist Dr. Zigler, recommended a more complex and expensive procedure which will obtain better results. It was explained to him that we could not afford anything above the $2000.00(single surgery cost) raised thanks to donations from our many supporters. Dr. Zigler then very kindly offered to go ahead with the more costly procedure at no additional charge to the UCHS. Many thanks to him!!! Merlin is doing well and we will keep you posted on his progress.
If you would like to see Merlin, we are expecting him to drop by the store for a visit on Feb. 18 to help us celebrate our Anniversary. Time to be determined.

Anniversary Celebration

On Sat. Feb. 18, 2012 we are excited to be celebrating our 5th Anniversary. You are invited to join us from 10 to 4 for refreshments,door prizes and to meet some special visitors. Animals who have been adopted through our shelter including some who have required extra care from Trooper's fund,will be on hand throughout the day.
Your continued support means we can go on caring for the animals who find themselves at our Shelter waiting for their forever homes.

Merlin Update

Merlin's eye surgery, which was to have been yesterday, Nov.22, has now been postponed until some time in January. He did visit the surgeon on Tuesday, and it was determined that he needs to be a little bigger. We will let you know when the date has been set and keep you posted on his progress.

MARVIN HAD MAJOR DENTAL SURGERY

Marvin is a super friendly 3 year old German Shepherd who showed up at the UCHS as a stray over the Labour Day long weekend with his best buddy Monty, a chocolate lab. Monty and Marvin are huge goofballs that live to fetch! Monty loves his silly German Shepherd buddy very much and is always looking out for him. When they arrived, Marvin was very thin, so a vet check was required. We discovered that his front lower canines were severely damaged:split, cracked and rotting. The condition appears to have been neglected for some time and our vet clinic was nervous about performing the required surgery out of fears of breaking his jaw. It is likely the decay had extended into the jawbone, so Marvin was referred to a Veterinary Dental Surgeon in Guelph, Dr. Hale.

Dr. Hale discovered that as a puppy, Marvin had received a required corrective surgery to his lower canines to prevent them from growing up into the roof of his mouth. The surgery was properly performed, but any post-operative care was neglected and the surgery "fell apart" with days of completion. The caps came off his teeth, wounds opened up, and bacteria and debris was free to set in. Marvin spent close to two years suffering from pain in his mouth.

On November 2, 2011 Marvin's surgery was performed. Dr. Hale removed four of Marvin's teeth, two infected canines and two pre-molars. Removing these teeth had left large holes that required extensive reconstruction to close as the tissue had wasted away around the infected teeth. Marvin's three hour surgery went very well but now he faces two weeks of intensive post-operative care. As a result, we must be extremely cautious not to disrupt any healing. Once the two weeks are up, he goes back for a re-check to make sure the repair was successful!

Marvin's surgery costs were close to $2000.00

Please help us replenish Trooper's Fund to help pay for Marvin's surgery.

We will keep you posted on his progress and let everyone know when he and Monty leave the shelter together for their forever home.

Good News! We have now raised the money needed for Merlin's eye surgery. The UCHS would like to thank everyone who made a donation over the last few weeks. Merlin is doing well and will have his surgery performed when he is 4 months old. We will continue to follow this little guys progress and let you know when he is ready for adoption.
In the meantime we have other kittens and cats available now and some will be visiting the thrift store where you can pick up an adoption application.

Merlin is our new visitor to the Thrift Store. He is 3 months old and was born without most of his upper eyelids. He has eye drops twice a day and is awaiting corrective surgery which he will have at 4 months. It is very expensive even with the discount we are being offered. Probably $2000.00. Otherwise he is a very healthy,happy and loving boy. His purring can be heard all over the store when someone is paying attention to him. Although he is not yet available for adoption you can come and visit him at the store during regular hours. He would love to meet you.

Glen Loates

Friday Sept. 9 was a special day at the Thrift store. Renowned Canadian Wildlife artist Glen Loates dropped in. He brought with him 4 lovely prints which he signed in the store and donated to us. We will be auctioning them in the near future so check the website for further information including photos.

Donations of household items that are in good condition including furniture, can be dropped off during business hours: Tues. to Sat. 10 to 5 .
